AAVSB® Welcomes New Executive Director

Kansas City, MO (July 20, 2015) - The Board of Directors of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) is pleased to announce the hiring of the Association's new executive director, Mr. James Penrod, effective August 1, 2015. This hiring concluded a nine-month nationwide search facilitated by Tryon & Heideman, LLC, an executive search consultant firm. The firm collaborated with a search committee comprised of appointed current and past Association leaders to draft a candidate profile and investigate and interview applicants. The AAVSB Board of Directors interviewed final candidates in person.

"Jim Penrod's successful, proven leadership experience with a membership association very similar to the AAVSB is exactly what we were looking for," remarked the AAVSB President Dr. John Lawrence. "Jim understands why licensing boards exist and how they operate. I look forward to working with him as we continue to support our Member Boards in their mission of public protection. Secondly, I'd like to thank Mr. Vic Cook and Ms. Daphne Tabbytite for their leadership as acting co-executive directors during the transition. The day-to-day operations of the AAVSB never skipped a beat during the search process."

Mr. Penrod's experience with licensing board association management is extensive. He has worked for the Council of Landscape Architectural Boards (CLARB) in Reston, Virginia since 1991, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), which is an endorsement given by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). He has volunteered on the CAE Examination Committee and Membership Action Team with the ASAE. He currently is the Vice Chair for the CAE Commission of ASAE. He has also volunteered with the Institute for Credentialing Excellence as a member of the Continuing Competence Task Force. Mr. Penrod is also a licensed landscape architect.

In his role as the AAVSB executive director, Mr. Penrod will work closely with the volunteer leadership to provide the maximum level of value to its Member Boards and will be responsible for the overall management and operation of the Association. His critical responsibilities include leading the AAVSB's staff and prudently managing the AAVSB's strong financial base and resources.

About the AAVSB: The AAVSB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to reliably provide quality resources and accurate information for veterinary regulatory agencies and professionals in the interest of public protection. The membership of the AAVSB consists of 59 jurisdictions representing all of the United States and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and six Canadian provinces: Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan.
