AAVSB® Celebrates 20 Years of Excellence Through RACE® Program

Kansas City, MO (August 15, 2017) - The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) is celebrating 20 years of its Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE). The purpose of RACE is to develop and apply uniform standards related to providers and programs of continuing education (CE) in veterinary medicine. Since the inception of RACE, veterinarians and veterinary technicians have utilized over 30,000 RACE-approved programs to fulfill their CE requirements.

"RACE is the benchmark for quality veterinary CE," said the AAVSB RACE Committee Chair. "Veterinary medical professionals know that if a program is RACE approved, it has been rigorously and comprehensively reviewed to meet their needs. I'm proud to be a part of the RACE Committee. Our first and only priority is to serve the AAVSB Member Licensing Boards and their mission to protect the public interest in their respective jurisdiction."

The RACE Committee is tasked with periodically reviewing and refreshing the RACE Standards, which are used to evaluate the merit of each CE program submitted for approval. The RACE Standards were last updated in 2016.

RACE was formed in 1997 after 22 AAVSB Member Boards indicated a need for a central CE approval mechanism. Today, RACE-approved content is currently fully acknowledged as acceptable CE in 60 AAVSB Member Boards.

AAVSB Executive Director James T. Penrod, CAE, FASLA, added, "Twenty years ago, the AAVSB's membership saw a need to streamline the CE approval process and today RACE is one of our core programs that relieves the administrative burdens on our Member Boards. I'm grateful for the RACE Committee and AAVSB staff that have contributed thousands of working hours over the years to make RACE what it is today."
