AAVSB Executive Director Honored with Distinguished Association Executive Award

Kansas City, MO (September 26, 2018) – The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) is pleased to announce Executive Director James Penrod has received the Distinguished Association Executive Award from the Kansas City Society of Association Executives (KCSAE).

As the KCSAE’s highest honor, the recipient of this award exemplifies the best in executive association management, continually bringing credit to the profession and the association management community. They provide leadership within their own association, KCSAE and other voluntary membership organizations. The recipient must be the chief paid executive of an association and a member of KCSAE.

“I credit this award to the team around me,” remarked Mr. Penrod. “It is because of the great AAVSB staff and the forward-thinking Board of Directors that we have been able to make great strides for our members. It’s easy to make a difference for your association when you are surrounded by such dedicated and talented individuals that share the same desire to advance our mission.”

The award was presented to Mr. Penrod last evening at the KCSAE’s Annual Meeting and Awards Celebration. The event recognized members and associates who have performed exceptional or outstanding service on behalf of the association and the profession.

Mr. Penrod's experience with licensing board association management is extensive. Prior to his taking the helm at the AAVSB in 2015, he worked for the Council of Landscape Architectural Boards (CLARB) in Reston, Virginia for 24 years, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), which is an endorsement given by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). He has volunteered on the CAE Examination Committee and Membership Action Team and was formerly Chair for the CAE Commission of ASAE. He has also volunteered with the Institute for Credentialing Excellence as a member of the Continuing Competence Task Force. Mr. Penrod is currently Treasurer of the Federation of Associations of Regulatory Boards (FARB).
