The AAVSB is in search of a Full-Time Chief Veterinary Officer. This professional position is responsible for subject matter expertise related to the regulation of veterinary medicine including performing a variety of technical and specialized work activities with considerable scope and complexity. 

Reporing to the Chief Executive Officer the Chief Veterinary Officer will mostly work independently to evaluate RACE program applications with oversight from a volunteer committee.  The Chief Veterinary Officer works collaboratively with senior staff on matters that are controversial or have broader organizational impacts and need the subject matter expertise of an educated and trained veterinarian. They also work with the Senior Director of Program Services and volunteer subject matter experts on the construction of examinations for licensure decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and manage complex projects with limited supervision.

  • Adept multi-tasker with ability to quickly prioritize and effectively delegate tasks.

  • Advanced information gathering and information monitoring skills.

  • Successful business record of collaborative leadership to achieve strategic objectives including excellent ability for managing people, building consensus, and integrating team efforts to achieve goals.

  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions.

  • Work professionally and cooperatively with diverse constituents and work both independently and as part of the AAVSB team, committed to DEI in the workplace.

  • Initiative, independent judgement, personal credibility, assertiveness, and decisiveness are required.

  • Public speaking

  • Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software used by AAVSB including Microsoft Office 365.

  • Extensive knowledge in veterinary medicine.

  • Knowledge of research methods and techniques and methods of report presentation.


   Education and Experience:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent required.

  • Professional experience in the higher education field or on a regulatory board is preferable but not required. 

   Details:

  • This is a position full-time and exempt position. 

  • Salary range: $160,000 - $180,000

  • The AAVSB is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. This position may be virtual/remote with the understanding that there will be required company-paid travel to Kansas City, Missouri throughout the year.
